Madison Visits DC

Madison and Jimmy flew into Greensboro on June 10, 2023, to visit family and tour DC. They stayed at our sister Linda’s, in Kernersville, so I drove down on Tuesday, the 13th, to pick them up. We all celebrated the occasion by going to dinner at Don Juan’s, one of our fav Mexican places.

On Wednesday, I took Madison to the Greensboro Cultural Center, where we toured the different studios. There were some very interesting creations, to say the least.

On Friday, we held a birthday dinner for Jimmy at Trish and Ron’s.

Friday, it was on to Richmond. Madison got to see a lot of her cousins at Terry and Amy’s. We also toured Hollywood Cemetery. We visited the graves of presidents Monroe and Tyler, and Confederate president Jeff Davis. Jimmy’s picture was taken in front of the 90 feet tall monument to the 18,000 Confederate dead.

Finally, DC on Saturday. We saw the Lincoln Memorial, Vietnam Wall, National Gallery of Art, Jefferson Memorial, and Udvar-Hazy Air and Space Museum. We quit around 4 PM, as Madison’s back was hurting.

I was very surprised to see that several museums, including the Mall’s Air and Space, required a pass to tour it. You have to get the passes in advance, so we were out of luck here. Fortunately, the Udvar-Hazy did not, so we went there instead. This is the actual Enola Gay plane that dropped the bomb on Hiroshima.

We stayed at an Airbnb which was conveniently right off 395. Unfortunately, the place was a basement, with no thermostat, So, we had to call the owner to get the air conditioning on. We had dinner at Lingee Thai, with both Madison and I trying the Phad Thai.

Sunday was our second, and last day, but before heading back to Richmond, we hit the White House, Museum of Natural History, and the Washingon Monument.

So, this was a whirlwind tour of Washington, DC in two days, but I think Madison (and Jimmy) got to see a lot of DC in that short time. We enjoyed seeing Madison and giving her a unique High School Senor trip.
