Killing Patton, by Bill O’Reilly

General Patton and WW II were made for each other. Only a great war could bring out the special abilities of this great hero. Even the Russians and Germans respected him. And the Russians hated him. In fact, there were several strange incidents that led Patton to believe he was targeted for assassination, including the suspicious incidents surround his death.

Anyway, this story is largely about WW II, and Patton’s path through it. And what a great path it was. After capturing the town of Trien from German occupation, he was sent a message telling him to avoid the town, as it would take a force of four divisions to take it. Patton responded that he had already taken it with two divisions, followed by ” what am I supposed to do, give it back?”

The parts in the book about the cruelty of the Germans–and the even worse Russians, are hard to think about. When I think back about how I was taught WW history in high school, pretty much just memorizing dates, I am amazed that it takes a book like this to open one’s eyes to what was really happening. You’ll be even more horrified to see what Hitler and Stalin did to the world.
