Memory Man, by David Baldacci

This is the first in a series of books about Amos Decker. As a result of a violent hit to this head in a football collision, he now has perfect memory. This will be his superpower, as he hunts for his wife and daughter’s killer. Several years after his family’s killing, as a police detective, he’s asked to investigate a school shooting. The killer’s profile is baffling, as no one can figure out how he got into the school and got away.

A year later, he finds out a man has confessed to his wife’s murder and turned himself into the police. But, on questioning the man, Decker realizes the man can’t be the killer, because his description of the crime scene doesn’t match Decker’s memory. Since Decker has perfect memory, Decker know the man is lying. So, why did he confess?

The rest of the book describes how Decker was finally able to put all these pieces together. The plot is intriguing, and you’ll be surprised how Baldacci wraps it up in the end.
