Morning Star, by Pierce Brown

The Red Rising trilogy has given me a new appreciation of Science Fiction. It’s a blend of science, action, and mystery, in a way that reminds me of the best parts of Game of Thrones, The Hunger Games, Lord of the Rings, and The Expanse.

It all takes place in space and in different locations in our Solar System, but far in the future. Where mankind has colonized the Asteroid Belt, Mars, Jupiter, and their moons. And, like humanity is doomed to endure, segregation and domination. Different factions of society are named Reds, Golds, Violets, etc. The Golds are the upper tier, and Reds the bottom.

Since this the third book in the series, I won’t try to explain the story up to this point. But, this book is not a winding down of the rest of the story, but a blazing supernova of a climatic explosion. Like the other books, there are parts where Darrow is subjected to more torture, deception, and despair. But, he always seems to seize the advantage, even when it looks the end of the line is right around the corner.

So, it’s a roller coaster ride, that will keep you amazed and surprised at every move the Reaper, the Jackal, and Mustang make. Love those names.
