This is a wonderful activity for teens and maybe a little younger, and it’s only an hour away from Richmond. It’s not hard to convince a young boy or girl to climb a tree, is it? The Sandy River Outdoor Adventure offers the perfect opportunity for them do do just that, and more.
It’s just outside Farmville, an easy drive from Richmond, and they have built a little paradise of tree climbing and ziplining. The cost is reasonable, at $40/person, and the best part is that the adult in the group does not have to participate. An adult has to be present, but that’s all. After a short tutorial and demo on how to clamp onto the zipline, you’re ready to go.
I was impressed with the quality of the equipment, the training, and the friendliness. They also have teepees (yes, really) laid out across the road, that you can rent. I met a lady who had also brought her kids, and stayed in a teepee. She said it was very comfortable–they have heat, as well as air conditioning, and they built a campfire the night they were there, right outside their door. They have TV’s, microwaves, DVR’s, stereo equipment, the whole deal. I looked inside one, and it looked very comfy.
